Collagenase
Enzyme for splitting collagen
Collagenase is an enzyme that breaks down collagen, releasing the free amino acid oxyproline. An important property of collagenase is its ability to biodegrade the main protein of the intercellular matrix - collagen. The enzyme can split almost all types of collagen and is able to destroy not only the peptide chain of the protein, but also numerous bonds inside the triple helixes of the molecules.
Collagenase enzyme is used in various fields where it is necessary to split collagen fibers: in biomedicine, dermatology and cosmetology. The enzyme is used in preparations to remove necrotic tissue from wounds, and promotes mild tissue scarring.
